Rise, Lift and Leave Something Worthwhile

A new morning is more than the continuation of yesterday. It is another opportunity to begin again - with greater wisdom, clearer intention and a renewed sense of responsibility.

We may not be able to correct everything that has gone wrong, complete every unfinished task or solve every problem around us today. But we can take one meaningful step.

We can become better by learning from yesterday rather than remaining trapped in it.

We can lift someone else through a word of encouragement, a useful introduction, an honest conversation, a listening ear or an opportunity that helps another person move forward.

We can also leave something worthwhile behind - not only through grand achievements, but through the small systems, relationships, examples and acts of service that continue to help others after we have moved on.

Many of us are where we are today because someone once reached out, opened a door, shared knowledge, offered guidance or believed that we could become more. As we progress, we are also given opportunities to become that person for someone else.

Perhaps there is a young person who needs direction.

Perhaps there is a colleague who needs encouragement.

Perhaps there is a former school, community or institution that could benefit from the experience we have gathered over the years.

Perhaps there is an idea we have delayed because we were waiting for perfect conditions.

This morning is another invitation to act.

Do not underestimate what one thoughtful step can begin. A conversation can become a partnership. An introduction can become an opportunity. A simple act of responsibility can become a legacy.

So, as you go into the rest of this week, ask yourself:

How can I become better today? Who can I help to rise? What worthwhile thing can I begin or strengthen?

Rise with gratitude.
Work with purpose.
Lift someone along the way.
And leave something worthwhile behind.

Have a purposeful and rewarding mid-week.

Abuja, Nigeria - October 2025. As part of its ongoing Stakeholders Engagement on the WhatNext Calendar for the 2025/2026 School Year, WhatNext Africa, led by its Programme Director, Temitope S. Ogunnusi, participated in the 46th Plenary of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) held in Abuja. The engagement underscores WhatNext Africa’s mission to work collaboratively with education and alumni stakeholders to help young Nigerians make informed transitions from school to life, work, and nation-building.
