Welcome to July 2026


Happy New Month.

July is not just another month on the calendar.

Across schools, campuses, families and communities, many young people are entering one of the most important seasons of their lives.

For the Class of 2026, this is a transition season.

Some are completing junior secondary school and preparing for senior secondary education.

Some are finishing senior secondary school and waiting for results, admissions, choices and direction.

Some are graduating from higher institutions and preparing for service, work, enterprise, further study or the uncertain road beyond school.

Some are already stepping into life after school and quietly asking: what next?

This is why this season must not only be marked with congratulations.

It must also be marked with prayer, guidance, mentoring, sponsorship, encouragement and intentional support.

As Africa again confronts the painful reality of children being lost at critical school transition points, one truth becomes clearer: no education system can be strengthened by government action alone.

Alumni communities have a quiet but powerful role to play. They know the schools. They know the journeys. They understand what one timely word, one useful resource, one mentoring conversation, one sponsored cohort, or one structured reach-back effort can mean for a young person standing at the edge of the next stage.

This new month, WhatNext Africa invites alumni of educational institutions to think beyond nostalgia and begin asking: who is about to cross a difficult transition point, and what can we do to help them cross it well?

At WhatNext Africa, we are inviting alumni everywhere to reach back.

Reach back to your alma mater.

Reach back to your younger ones.

Reach back to the students now standing where you once stood.

Reach back with a call, a visit, a word of counsel, a prayer, a useful resource, a sponsorship, an introduction, or a commitment to walk with someone through their next step.

You once needed guidance.

Someone in the Class of 2026 needs it now.

As part of our Transition Season advocacy and wider preparation for structured transition-support work, we invite alumni, old students’ associations, parents, educators, faith communities, professionals and institutions to stand with young people at this defining moment.

Pray for them.

Reach out to them.

Guide them.

Support them.

Sponsor them where you can.

Introduce this message to your alumni network.

The future does not only need celebration.

It needs preparation.

    Education doesn't end at graduation; it creates a lifelong responsibility to those coming behind.

    Every teacher who continues to inspire, every educator who chooses to mentor, every alumnus who reaches back, and every student who dares to keep learning becomes part of building a stronger future.

    To the Class of 2026... this transition may feel uncertain, but it is also full of possibilities. Stay teachable, seek guidance, ask questions. Every great journey begins with one faithful step.



    To fellow alumni, Sometimes, a conversation, a recommendation, a scholarship, or simply believing in a young person can change the course of a life.



    The future of Africa will be shaped by those who choose to reach back while moving forward. Thank you, WhatNext Africa, for championing this timely and much-needed call.

WhatNext Africa Engages Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) at 46th Plenary 2025

Abuja, Nigeria - October 2025. As part of its ongoing Stakeholders Engagement on the WhatNext Calendar for the 2025/2026 School Year, WhatNext Africa, led by its Programme Director, Temitope S. Ogunnusi, participated in the 46th Plenary of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) held in Abuja. The engagement underscores WhatNext Africa’s mission to work collaboratively with education and alumni stakeholders to help young Nigerians make informed transitions from school to life, work, and nation-building. During the plenary, Mr. Ogunnusi met with USOSA President-General, Mr. Michael Magaji, and introduced him to one of the organization’s flagship student resources - the “Life After Secondary School” pamphlet.
