Introducing WhatNext Conversations: Guiding Young Minds, One Classroom at a Time


At WhatNext Africa, we believe every young person deserves the clarity, courage, and connections they need to make life-shaping decisions after school. The question “What next after secondary school?” is one that every student will face, and too often, they face it with little guidance. That’s why we created WhatNext Conversations.


What are WhatNext Conversations?

WhatNext Conversations are weekly, classroom-based career and life-readiness discussions for students in Junior Secondary 3 (JS3) through Senior Secondary 3 (SS3). They are simple, interactive, and age-relevant sessions that invite students to pause, reflect, and engage with their future in a safe and inspiring space.

Each conversation is built around thought-provoking themes - mindset, skills, opportunities, decision-making, and transitions - that give students practical insight into their academic and career journey. Whether it’s understanding the importance of digital literacy, exploring entrepreneurship, preparing for higher education, or simply learning how to make better choices, the sessions help young people think ahead with confidence.


Why Does It Matter?

For many students, school is a place where they learn equations, dates, and grammar rules. But life after school is about more than academics - it’s about choices, direction, and resilience. WhatNext Conversations bridge that gap.

They provide the missing link between classroom learning and real-world readiness. They also ensure that guidance is not a once-a-year event, but a steady rhythm that becomes part of a student’s formation.


Who Leads the Conversations?

Through the NYSC WhatNext Collaboration, corps members - who are just a few steps ahead in life’s journey - volunteer as facilitators. With the support of trained supervisors and project officers, they bring relatable stories, interactive guides, and encouragement that spark curiosity and hope in the classrooms.

These facilitators are not just teaching; they are mentoring. They become role models who show students that success is possible, no matter the path they choose.


Our Vision

We see WhatNext Conversations as a movement, not just a program. A movement that helps millions of young people across Nigeria grow up with the tools to navigate life after school. A movement that builds a successor generation ready to contribute meaningfully to society.

WhatNext Africa Engages Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) at 46th Plenary 2025

Abuja, Nigeria - October 2025. As part of its ongoing Stakeholders Engagement on the WhatNext Calendar for the 2025/2026 School Year, WhatNext Africa, led by its Programme Director, Temitope S. Ogunnusi, participated in the 46th Plenary of the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) held in Abuja. The engagement underscores WhatNext Africa’s mission to work collaboratively with education and alumni stakeholders to help young Nigerians make informed transitions from school to life, work, and nation-building.
